Control crawl paths for ecommerce filters

Keep useful search pages while reducing duplicate combinations and crawl waste.

Use the procedure on a representative sample, keep the evidence, and record the next action.

Set rules for filter URLs

  • Export parameterized URLs from logs, analytics, and crawl samples. Group by filter combination and number of generated URLs.
  • Decide which combinations satisfy a distinct search need and deserve stable, indexable URLs with unique content.
  • For other combinations, choose a consistent canonical, crawl, and internal-link policy. Do not block crawling if Google must see a noindex or canonical directive.
  • Test top URLs and combinations, monitor crawl patterns, and verify that category and product pages remain discoverable.
