Build an internal linking action map

Link useful pages where readers need the next step; do not add links solely to manipulate rankings.

Use the procedure on a representative sample, keep the evidence, and record the next action.

Prioritize links by user journey

  • Export important landing pages, service/product pages, guides, and conversion pages. Include current crawl depth and existing inbound links.
  • For each target page, list source pages with related context and a natural place where a reader would want more detail.
  • Write descriptive anchor text that matches the destination. Avoid repeated exact-match anchors and generic “click here”.
  • Check for broken links, redirecting destinations, orphaned priority pages, and links hidden from keyboard or mobile users. Re-crawl after release.
