Google AI Overviews SEO: a practical page checklist

Check whether Google can find, understand, and cite the page. No special markup guarantees an AI Overview appearance.

Start with the page’s real search intent. Put the direct answer near the top, then explain the evidence, steps, limitations, and who the advice applies to. Use a descriptive title, crawlable links, useful images, and structured data only when it matches visible content.

Test the exact URL in Search Console and inspect the rendered HTML. Google says its generative search features use the same foundational SEO practices; avoid “AI ranking” hacks and files that have no documented search benefit. Google’s AI features guide

Steps to follow

  • Choose one audience question and answer it directly.
  • Verify access, canonical URL, and rendered main content.
  • Add primary evidence, examples, and clear limits.
  • Measure actual Search Console data; do not promise inclusion.
