Diagnose Core Web Vitals with field and lab data

Find the slow page template and validate the fix on real visits.

Use the procedure on a representative sample, keep the evidence, and record the next action.

Connect metric to a page template

  • Use Search Console’s Core Web Vitals report or field data to identify affected URL groups and mobile/desktop differences.
  • Name the metric and real-user percentile. Do not treat a single Lighthouse run as field performance.
  • Reproduce the issue on a representative URL and device. Use lab tools to isolate likely causes such as oversized images, long tasks, or layout shifts.
  • Change one cause in the shared template, retest representative pages, then monitor field data after it has time to update.
