Core Web Vitals INP: diagnose slow mobile interactions

Find which interaction is slow before removing scripts or changing the design.

INP measures the responsiveness of page interactions across a visit. Google’s “good” threshold is 200 ms or less at the 75th percentile; above 500 ms is poor. Check mobile and desktop separately, then use field data to identify affected pages.

Record the slow interaction in browser performance tools. Look for long JavaScript tasks, expensive event handlers, layout work, and third-party scripts. Reduce the work before the next paint; confirm the change with field data. INP guide

Steps to follow

  • Open the affected template and device segment in CrUX/Search Console.
  • Record the slow interaction and main-thread task.
  • Test removing or splitting the responsible work.
  • Compare field data at the 75th percentile after rollout.
