Project context

Provodnik Media is an editorial project for a professional audience, with practical materials, industry news and specialist explainers. The team needed more than another blog: it needed a structured media platform organized by topics, sections and formats. SurfUp built the project end to end, from information architecture and frontend to CMS setup and its search foundation.

01 · Challenge

Create an editorial platform that helps readers find relevant professional material.

SEO had to be built into its structure from day one. Without organic traffic, a media site is hard to sustain; rebuilding its taxonomy after launch costs more than designing it properly in advance.

02 · Work completed

The project ran on two parallel tracks—platform development and editorial launch—so the work did not lose weeks to a strictly sequential process.

  • Designed the information architecture with sections for News, People, Reports, Learning, Law, and Technology and Trends, plus shared topics and formats.
  • Built the website with article pages, section navigation, full-text search, author pages and related materials.
  • Built SEO into the taxonomy: sections reflect search demand rather than the editorial team’s internal view, providing a foundation for organic growth.
  • Prepared the technical foundation with clean URLs, correct metadata templates, article markup and fast pages for indexing.
  • Launched the editorial operation with a starter set of materials for each section so the new platform would work and feel like a living publication.

One principle guided the work: a media structure should grow from real audience searches. Each section represents a demand cluster, and each format serves a way of consuming content. This gives the platform a search-led structure from the outset instead of requiring an SEO rebuild six months later.

03 · Outcome

The platform was ready to publish in eight weeks. The main launch pages were indexed during the first weeks after launch, and search impressions began growing from zero.

Next steps

The architecture leaves room for several next steps:

  • Create professional-topic hubs that bring materials together and strengthen section rankings.
  • Use an email newsletter and retention work to turn search visitors into a regular editorial audience.
  • Build a GEO channel so the publication is cited in AI service answers and reaches more professionals.
